Catawriters Blog About Goals!

Last month, I did a goal-setting workshop on the catawriters loop. We thought through our lives, considered what we really want and set some goals.

I set two writing goals and a goal to lose 20 pounds (I really need to lose 30) and each of us is posting our progress on our own blogs so we can keep up with each other.

My big news is that after weeks of getting myself accustomed to the treadmill, I finally added the diet portion of my goal!

So one day down...probably 89 more to go!

So you're off to a good start! I should have put down to set more goals as one of my goals. I'm just so used to living in the moment due to my daughter's issues with bipolar disorder and Asperger's Syndrome and my own struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Sometimes it's hard to set goals for the future when you never know what's going to happen day to day.

Susan,
Thank you so much for the goal setting workshop. I've set my goals now I need to make sure I stick to them.

Good luck with your weight goals, I have a set of those as well. When I'm on the treadmill, I read, that way I don't notice the time so much. LOL.

Wishing you all the best for 2009.

Margay,

It is hard to "order" your life when someone or something in your life can't be "ordered".

I have a son with a siezure disorder. It's controled now but wasn't always. His needs have always come first.

I had to learn how to "identify" my moments. Sometimes the knowledge that you have a little space of time will sneak up on you. For instance, I'd be watching TV with the kids and think...If I sneak away now, no one will notice!

But I agree. it's not easy to set goals when your time and energy are at the mercy of an illness.

I finally got my treadmill and television together. I can't read because I have the "ski" poles on my treadmill that supposedly exercise your upper body while you walk. But I sure can watch Television! LOL

Susan, thank you for the great response! Here's a strange coincidence: My daughter, who has the issues with bipolar disorder and Asperger's Syndrome had a seizure disorder when she was real young. It started when she was two and she grew out of it by the time she was five, though we still periodically check her for activity.

Mikie's started around the same age. We'd hoped he would grow out of them, but he didn't.

He's accepted that he'll take meds the rest of his life. He's very brave. His life frequently reminds me of how resiliant we can be when we need to be.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how tough it can be to watch your child contend with something like that. Thankfully, children are very resilient.

Thank you for such a great workshop, Susan. It has helped me get my mind focused on what I need to achieve.

Good luck with your goals!

Goals can be a lot of fun, if only because marking our progress in increments gives us a sense of accomplishment!

That's one of the reasons I like set the kinds of goals that can be divided. LOL

Good luck with your goals too!
